Purchase a pleated air filter with a high-efficiency rating.
Keep leaves, pollen, and grass away from AC and heater systems.
Leave 2 feet of space around outdoor air conditioners and heaters.

Each month, inspect refrigerant lines.
You should replace your air filter at least once a month.
Turn off the water supply to the furnace humidifier during the Summer.
Change the humidifier's filter and turn on the water in the Fall.

Replace the battery in your carbon monoxide detector.
Make sure the outside AC unit is placed on a sturdy, flat surface.
Use a bleach/water solution to clean the AC drain.
