Five AC Maintenance Tips That Will save Your Money

AC Maintenance

Your air conditioner is an essential part of your residence, especially in the Texas heat. Understanding how your AC unit works is the first step to being able to maintain your system correctly. Follow these five AC maintenance tips to help you save money every year.

Your cooling unit needs to remain clean. Your AC unit has fragile fins, and since they break easily, we recommend using a brush that has soft bristles. The cleaner you keep the cooling system, the less chance it has to collect dust and other debris, which can cause the unit to malfunction.

If your home’s air conditioner pad is sinking, you’ll need to call us to inspect the unit and the pad itself. Over time, the pads under the air conditioner and heat exchanger begin to settle. As the pad settles in place, it gradually sinks. A sinking AC pad is typical, but when it descends and applies pressure on the coolant tubes, and electrical lines, you have a problem and need to call us immediately.

Using a programmable thermostat helps you keep the rooms in your home at a comfortable temperature. An advantage of using programmable thermostats is the ability to set your home at a specific temperature at various times throughout the day and night. Being able to adjust the temperature in your home allows you to save money without continuously hovering over the thermostat to adjust the temperature.

Following a checklist during season changes is essential for many different reasons. Skipping only one item on the list can have drastic results, such as an entire unit malfunction and costly repairs. Details on the checklist need to be addressed regardless of the cooling system working as it should or not. Some of the same items on the checklist will need to be addressed during the summer and winter. We suggest checking these items during both times to ensure the unit continues to function correctly.

Changing the air filters in your AC unit are essential to your health. If you have pets, we suggest changing the filters every two months. If you don’t have pets, change your filter every three months. If you live with pets and have allergies, we suggest changing your filter every 20 to 45 days. Your air filter traps dust, dirt, pollen, and other debris, which prevents it from circulating throughout your home.
